Overview
Walking into Tony's Pizza Pasta Grill at 755 Van Houten Ave, Clifton, NJ 07013, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood staple that knows exactly why people keep coming back. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, both for quick lunches and drawn-out family dinners, and the experience has stayed consistent in the ways that matter. The smell of baked dough, simmering sauce, and garlic hits you before you even sit down, and it sets the tone for what’s coming next.
The menu leans confidently into Italian-American comfort food, with pizza and pasta taking center stage. Their pies are built on a thin crispy crust that still has enough chew to hold up under generous toppings. One of the cooks once explained to me how they let the dough rest longer than most places nearby, which helps develop flavor without making it heavy. That tracks with what food science research shows: longer fermentation improves texture and digestibility, something the American Institute of Baking has highlighted in studies on dough development. You taste the difference here, especially in classics like plain cheese or pepperoni, where there’s nowhere to hide flaws.
Pasta dishes are clearly treated with the same respect. The baked ziti comes out bubbling, layered with ricotta and mozzarella that stretch perfectly when you dig in. I’ve watched first-time diners light up after trying the vodka sauce, which balances creaminess and acidity in a way that feels intentional rather than accidental. According to the National Restaurant Association, comfort-driven pasta dishes remain among the most ordered items in casual dining, and Tony’s delivers exactly what people are craving without overcomplicating things.
What stands out just as much as the food is how the kitchen operates. Sauces are made in-house daily, a process the staff is open about if you ask. That matters more than many diners realize. The USDA has long pointed out that fresh-prepared sauces retain better flavor integrity than reheated commercial bases, and it shows here. The marinara tastes bright and tomato-forward, not overly sweet or flat.
Reviews from locals often mention portion sizes, and they’re not exaggerating. Plates arrive full, and leftovers are the norm rather than the exception. That’s part of why this spot works so well for families. I’ve shared meals here where three people comfortably ate from two entrées and still had food to take home. It’s practical, generous, and feels honest.
The atmosphere is relaxed, almost diner-like, with servers who remember regulars and aren’t shy about making recommendations. On one visit, I took a suggestion to try a grilled chicken dish instead of my usual slice order, and it ended up being one of the better meals I’ve had there. That kind of guidance builds trust, especially in an industry where consistency can be hard to find. Hospitality experts from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration often stress that repeat business is driven by personal connection as much as food quality, and Tony’s seems to understand that intuitively.
While the primary location in Clifton gets most of the attention, people from nearby neighborhoods routinely stop in, which says a lot given how competitive pizza spots are in New Jersey. There are limitations, of course. Seating can get tight during peak hours, and parking nearby isn’t always effortless. Still, most regulars plan around that because the payoff is worth it.
If you scroll through online reviews, you’ll see a pattern: reliable food, friendly service, and a menu that doesn’t chase trends. In a dining landscape where concepts come and go, Tony’s Pizza Pasta Grill holds its ground by doing the fundamentals right, plate after plate, day after day.

I had such a great experience at this pizza shop/Mexican restaurant in Clifton, NJ! The customer service was absolutely amazing—every staff member was warm, welcoming, and genuinely made me feel at home. The vibe of the place was super chill, and the surrounding area was beautiful, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. The pizza is Incredible and their signature Tony’s orange soda was AMAZING !!!!! Fresh, flavorful, and made with care—you can taste the quality in every bite and sip of soda. I came all the way from New York, and I can honestly say it was well worth the trip. I’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend if you’re looking for great food and even better vibes. DEFINITELY WILL BE BACK ! XO
My family and I come to Tony’s atleast once a week. It’s our favorite place . Amazing food. Amazing family atmosphere. Amazing service. Highly recommend coming here
I stopped in this restaurant for lunch. I ordered the chicken marsala with penne. When I arrived I parked nearby! I walked in and told them my name and paid and left. When I dug in, the food was good, but it was a little oily. While the flavors were good, the oil wasn't great. All in all, I had an ok experience.
I loooooove Tony’s! It’s my favorite thing to get when I’m in town. The small cheese pizza and an order of chicken strips, the seasoning of the strips is AMAZING and the honey mustard it comes with is out of this world good!!!! The pizza has a sweet and salty ness to it that keeps me coming back for more. You guys rock!
Let me start off by saying this picture doesn't do justice as to how delicious these lemon garlic wings are lip smacking good. Tony the owner of this place also has may other dishes that are just as good. What makes this place great is his food and the service that goes along with it. Tony has also re-worked his pizza dough recipe which the crust is really good. This is my 2nd day in a row ordering these wings along with a peace of tiramisu which is another great item. I only order from Tony's because of the great food and the great person him and his family is. Godbless you and your family. His food and service is something you have to experience, words can't justify
